Oyster Yachts World Rally Visit

Oyster Yachts World Rally Visit

Visiting yachties, Don, Tom and Len, after their relaxing dive in Flying Fish Cove.

This week on Christmas Island, Flying Fish Cove was host to eight of the 29 Oyster yachts signed up to sail the world in the second Oyster World Rally 2017-19.

Starting on 15th January 2017 from Antigua, this 27,000 mile circumnavigation, taking over 27 months and comprising four connecting stages, participants are exploring the Pacific and Asian islands, including Christmas and Cocos Keeling!! Follow the adventure.

Whilst not all sailors are divers, we managed to take a few of the yachties down below to see what was underneath their moorings. After having dived in Tahiti, Vanuatu and the Great Barrier Reef, these divers were amazed by the health and vibrancy of our house reef.

“That was awesome!! Those clams were huge and the visibility was just stunning”, Don commented.

We also had a crew of 5 from UK, David, Tom, Linda, Deb and Hugh, joined us for our half day boat diving tour, around the coast to Thundercliff Cave. All were stunned at the incredible diving offered here in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

From all of us at Christmas Island Wet’n’Dry Adventures we wish you a Bon Voyage and hope that you will visit us again one day.

PADI Women's Dive Day 2018

PADI Women's Dive Day 2018

Thanks to this awesome bunch of #womendivers

Thanks to this awesome bunch of #womendivers

A few weeks ago, fresh back from Japan, I was desperately seeking some dive buddies to get back underwater. I remembered heaps of women who had dive tickets, but couldn't find any who had been diving in the last few years (mostly due to motherhood). And so our group, 'Mama Divers' was born!

With Hama offering a refresher for those whose skills were a little rusty, we were soon back on track and back in the water - with a weekly dive for women, at our local reef, Flying Fish Cove. Then, as a coincidence, I discovered that PADI were having their annual 'women's dive day' event and the timing was just too poetic to ignore.

So we invited a bunch of Mama Divers to get together to celebrate Women in scuba for PADI Women's Dive Day 2018!

Congratulations to Arfah Omar, Farzian Zainal and Marnie Bell for coming out of diving retirement after years and years with no dives!!! They all slipped back into the water with no dramas and had an awesome dive. Great to see you back under water ladies!!

Thanks to everyone for coming. Hope we can make this a tradition that sticks!

See you again next week!! Lin :)
